Vettaiyan (transl. Hunter) is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language action thriller film written and directed by T. J. Gnanavel. It is produced by Subaskaran Allirajah under Lyca Productions. The film stars Rajinikanth, alongside an ensemble cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh and Dushara Vijayan.

The film was announced in March 2023, with the tentative title Thalaivar 170, being the 170th film of Rajinikanth, and the official title was announced in December 2023. Principal photography commenced in October 2023 in Chennai and followed with schedule’s in Thiruvananthapuram, Tirunelveli and Mumbai. The film has have music composed by Anirudh Ravichander and cinematography handled by S. R. Kathir and editing by Philomin Raj.

Casting 

Rajinikanth was reported to be seen as a Muslim police officer in the film.  In late April 2023, Suriya was reported to play a cameo role in the film. Vikram was reportedly approached to play the lead antagonist, which he declined playing. In early June, Arjun Sarja was reported to play an important role in the film.  Amitabh Bachchan was reported to be a part of the cast, marking his debut in Tamil cinema and collaborating with Rajinikanth 32-years after their last film together, Hum (1991).
